No, I'm not talking about that witty retort when the ref's decision goes against you but rather the ability to win a game when all seems lost.
I was watching the WFA National Cup finals today, with a concentration on the 70s age group as I know a couple of competing players.
Skipping to the semi-finals it was Kingston v Blackburn. Kingston scored a walking football worldy late in the first half and looked comfortable through the second half. Blackburn were constantly pressing and Kingston were playing in their own half but remained in control and were seeing the game out.
Then with ten seconds to go, Blackburn equalised to make it 1:1 and force a penalty shootout.
Kingston took the lead in the penalty decider but in the best of three, Blackburn relentlessly came back to win.
Kingston we're deflated and Blackburn on a high after what had seemed such an unlikely win.
In the other semi-final Matlock went through with a comfortable 5:0 win.
Matlock looked unbeatable going into the final and went a goal up quite early in the game. As the ball hit the net the thought was that Matlock could run away with the match. However, Blackburn dug in and somewhat inevitably, based on the earlier semi-final, equalised deep into the second half and the game ended 1:1.
Penalties again.!!
And as per the semi-final Blackburn produced the best penalties and the best goalkeeping saves to become the champions.
With a few seconds to go in one match and behind in the final, no one had Blackburn as champions, but until that final whistle blows, there's always a chance.
