A regular football team always has a captain so do we need one in our walking football teams?
The games are much shorter in duration so the opportunity to change tactics and approach are more limited. An onfield captain still has an impact but in reality this could be any, and all, playing team members.
Often the captain becomes captain by default. This is the person who assembles the team, collects the money, pays the organisers, and decides on the starting line up and positions.
In general the interactions with the referee are less so a captain has less need to represent the team on decisions. Plus most refs I know will never change a made up mind.
In tournaments and competitions there is often a manager or organiser on the side lines and they in many ways supersede the need for a captain. They are the ones shouting when players are not performing - and when things are working.
I do know some teams and players where the role of captain has been preserved. In these cases they still proudly wear the arm band with the C, or Captain, emblazoned, and for these teams, it's clear who's going to call heads or tails.
