Speaking with some players who train and play for the Regional England or Full England teams - now there's another subject just in itself..!! - they always mention how their training sessions are based around fitness. The England squads demand the players to be fit to play walking football.

The England training sessions, across all age groups, typically start with multi-touch running football and then progressively through the training session, slow the games down to finish with limited-touch and walking.

If you think about it logically, these England players should already be skilful with the ball and so concentrating on being able to sustain a high work rate throughout the match or tournament could be a winning attribute.

Another value is that these elite players, through being fitter than average, may suffer less with injuries and strains gained through playing.

It's a different story for the average walking footballer who often looks at walking football as a way of getting fit.
